Dr. Lynn delivers all of his own patients, whether he is on call or not. He shares phone call with the other OB's in Nampa. If there are more significant problems or it is time for delivery, the hospital will page Dr. Lynn directly. If he is out of town for some reason, the on call OB will take care of you. Your prenatal visits in an uncomplicated pregnancy are usually as follows:
First Visit--You have blood work done and you have a physical exam and discuss pregnancy issues with Dr. Lynn.
12 weeks--We listen for the heart beat at this point, and make sure nausea is improving, and as in all visits, check your urine, blood pressure, and weight.
16-18 weeks--We do our first 3-D and 4-D ultrasound at this visit. We also discuss screening tests for spina bifida, cystic fibrosis, and chromosomal problems.
22-24 weeks--We do the "official" ultrasound, where Dr. Lynn will do measurements and check the baby head to two to make sure he or she is developing correctly. Bring in a video tape for a keepsake, and family members are welcome.
26-28 weeks--We discuss diabetes testing at this visit.
32-33 weeks--We discuss birth control, preterm labor, breastfeeding issues, and do our final 3-D ultrasound (if baby cooperates). Hospital registration is done at this visit.
35-36 weeks--We discuss labor plans, check for fetal position, and discuss labor precautions. You also do the Group B Strep test at this visit.
37 weeks--We discuss emergencies and contingencies such as C-sections, vacuum-assisted deliveries, and episiotomies.
38+ weeks--We discuss the option of induction, and do a pelvic exam to see how dilated the cervix is. This is done every visit until delivery.
We use state of the art ultrasound technology in our clinic. And unlike most other OBGYN practices which utilize either hospital ultrasounds or use a tech, Dr. Lynn personally does all of his own ultrasounds. This allows you to ask questions and he can explain what he is doing and seeing at the same time. We believe that your ultrasound experience should be one of the most fun and interesting parts of your pregnancy. Ultimately, the most important use of the ultrasound is to achieve accurate dating and to make sure no serious problems are present.
You are billed for one routine ultrasound in an uncomplicated pregnancy. Dr. Lynn, however, will perform one at about 14 weeks just for fun to get a glimpse at your new baby in both 3-D and in 4-D. We videotape these for you for a keepsake. When you have your routine screening scan at 22-24 weeks, you are also welcome to bring in a video tape. At 32-34 weeks, if the baby is cooperative, we can often get amazing realistic picture of the face and other parts. This, again, is free of charge, as a service to you.
Dr. Lynn delivers around 200 babies every year, and is experienced in caring for virtually every complication imaginable. Dr. Lynn delivers exclusively at Mercy Medical Center. Labor plans are individualized, and inductions, laboring in the jacuzzi, epidurals on demand, and natural childbirth are all very acceptable. It is our job to make it a safe, enjoyable experience.
Why Mercy?
There is a perception that bigger is always better. This perception has always existed and probably always will. This is not always true. Dr. Lynn has complete confidence in the people that count at Mercy--your labor nurse, the pediatricians, and the anesthesiologists. Epidurals are available 24 hours a day. A hospital is four walls and a ceiling. It is the people that care for you that matter. The labor rooms are beautiful and private, and you are allowed to labor, deliver, and recover all in the same room. This is not the practice in other local hospitals.
What about the NICU?
The function of an NICU is for long-term care of sick babies. It is terrific to have two NICU's here locally. If a very sick baby was born at a hospital without an NICU, the pediatricians are very capable of stabilizing the baby and a transport team comes to retrieve the infant. It is a safe, effective system, and saves you from the long drive to the hospital.
Other things to consider
Dr. Lynn does all of his own deliveries--at least 95% of them. This is rare in this day and age. Virtually all other OBGYN practices operate on a call system where you are delivered by whomever is on call. There is no need to fight the traffic going to Boise. We have great parking, easy access, and you have the chance to get to know your doctor and see him every visit and for delivery, and not have to wonder whom you will meet when you go in in labor. Our clinic can also take care of every other health problem you may have before or after you deliver. No computerized answering machines. No long waits for visits. No having to seek care elsewhere for non-OBGYN problems.
